Jimmy Yukka and Quick Stix

Its been a while since Quickstix (Mick) and I did a podcast. We have an upcoming gig in August which will be the last gig* with Quick Stix in the band. I thought because of this it was a good idea to have Mick over to introduce the listeners to what has been going on in the world of Quick Stix since last time.

Meanwhile I (Jimmy) am to continue with the Amazing Band and may also do some solo stuff similar to the previous gig in the idgaff. I will also be continuing to work on Caroline Towers Action Movie Rock Show

We have had over 5000 downloads of the podcasts so far and that spurred us into making more an effort with this recording. The picture above shows our setup with a zoom h4n and 2 dynamic mics Jimmy and Quick Sticks and a cat.

I hope you enjoy our ramblings

Things that were mentioned on the show

*Any drummers reading this that are as good as Mick and think they may enjoy what I’m doing please get in contact

LOAH League of Australian Heroes

This video appeared on Australian TV about 3 years ago and I was inspired to write a song about them. An article about them in the Age Newspaper can be found here.
In the course of writing this post I stumbled across this site captain Australia

My songwriting took a darker side when I was let down by the “heroes”. Some correspondence I had during this time is on their blog see here for entries on thier journal.

This podcasts talks about the the league of Australian heroes and my two songs I wrote about them as well as playing the tunes at the end.

The Dentist was recorded in 2009 at Salt Studio and this episode is about my motivation for writing the song and our recording experience. At the end of the podcast the song is played.

The vocals on this episode was recorded at "The Estate" on a zoom H4n.
This is the third recording of this the first two were too noisy (recorded
at the park) there was a baby crying through the whole thing that was
really loud on the recording. Condensor mics (like those on the Zoom H4n)
can pickup and amplify alot of ambient noise for this reason I may be buying
a new mic (probably a sure sm58).

Drive on Amber

Episode 6 is all about a tune called Drive on Amber a tune I first started working with in in my old band Fred Yukka in 2002. Since then it has gone through a few versions. Two of these versions are on the podcast together with some stories behind the tunes. The current version of the tune is not recorded but will be performed at our next gig. The first version of Drive on Amber is from the Supercool Album recorded in 2003 with Fred Yukka.

Podcast Episode 5 a bit late but I think it came out quite well. I recorded this with a my iphone with a new mic and a new Zoom H4n portable recorder. So the sound quality is much improved (although I ran out of batteries about halfway at which time the reocrding is back with the iphone). I’m also in the same place so there is not actually any heavy breathing on this.

Bad things are about to happen

Hank enters his suburban home to his wonderful wife and children. Food is cooking and the children are playing in the front room, everything is as it should be. Suddenly they hear the screaming, and then a crash as the lounge room window smashes. Hank goes out to investigate, his life will never be the same again.

Love lost, revenge and architecture

Intro Music (Fight Fire with Fire) ”His wife and children are dead everything he loves is gone. He’s on the verge of giving up when the leader of the resistance persuades him to use the pain to avenge his family.”

Outro Music (Goin’ Home) “Coming home to home cooked food, his wife and children.”

Princess Park Melbourne

New Newsletter If your on the mailing list then you are likely to be reading this from your email. I hope you appreciate the new format. Now every time something is put up on the website it goes to you too.

Podcast Episode 4 is a bit of a landmark in a few ways.  I have decided to commit to completing one podcast every month. Hopefully they will feature other people too but this one is just me.

I recorded this on my iphone walking around Princess Park in Melbourne and the picture above is of that Park. Please excuse the noises in the background (mainly birds) and the occasional heavy breathing.

News
The biggest news is that I am currently looking for a drummer . The hunt is on to find that special someone to fill Quik Stix (Micks) big shoes. He had to leave the band due to other commitments. It has been great working with Mick and I hope maybe he can join me for another podcast sometime. We plan on doing a final gig sometime this year I will keep you updated.

There’s also a bit about the Espy gig that we did back in January and stuff about the new CD that is now available for sale at the next Roller Derby game (the Dentist and Hot chicks and Roller Skates can be heard on the music player on this site). We will be publishing 3 CD’s as a result of the recording that we did back in January (its taking a long time to sort things out).

Intro Music (Intro) This was recorded in 2008 in a rehearsal with Fast Hands (AKA Simon).

Outro Music(Lezbian Hedgehog) Which appears at the end of the show was recorded in October last 2009 at Salt Studios and will feature in one of our LP’s to come out in the next few months.

NOTES
The image for this show is a shot of Princess Park (where it was recorded)
